The Colossus of Rhodes was a huge statue of the Greek God Helios, erected on the Greek island of Rhodes by Chares of Lindos between 292 and 280 BC. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Before its destruction, the Colossus of Rhodes stood over 30 meters high, making it the tallest statue of the ancient world Chares of Lindos, a pupil of Lysippus, created the Colossus of Rhodes, taking twelve years to complete it at a cost of 300 gold talents - equivalent today to several million dollars.Historical sources give various heights for the Colossus (60-80 cubits).The average of these sources puts it at the same height (about 34m) as New York's Statue of Liberty (not including her upraised arm)
